Spain is the ancestral homeland of Shireen's Sephardic
grandparents and a place she has always felt a close kinship
with. Her flamenco dance study began in the late 70's,
spending a year in Sevilla. Learning from Gitano artists, she
had the opportunity to experience unique aspects of flamenco
life in the heartland. Forays to Utrera, Córdoba, Morón, and
Jerez de la Frontera - flamenco festivals and all-night juergas -
offered insight into the spirit of that passionate tradition. Her
study of flamenco is an ongoing pursuit with many excellent
instructors in Spain and in the States.
